    Your observations are all really valid. A non Judoka did the marketing is what the marketing slides screams. You are right, it's a misleading and slippery slope to have pictures of children with Dan grades and performing Atemi like that's the mainstay of training. Very little of the marketing strategy leans into the history and design of Judo as a modernised, humanistic lifestyle. Not a sport with pajamas. The use of mostly slogans, poorly utilised slogans that don't tell you what's really important is lazy when diagrams and unique visual resources should have been used. Visually very uncreative. What the marketing should also focus on are the redemptive qualities Judo gives in embracing skilful means and not avoiding adversity. That how it manifests in Judo is empowering and beautifully. When you have people in suits with empty statements it also evokes ideas of a monastic order, which is not what Judo should be. When you divorce Judo from Japanese culture as much as the advertising shows it comes across as quite cold and clinical/medical in it's approach. The people modelling in the pictures definitely don't evoke the kind of inspiration Judo should inspire when it's experienced. But what is one of the most valuable commodities in the world even during recessions/depression? Art. There is nothing from a visual perspective that is truly inspirational, especially when talking in the context of the beauty of a throw, paradigms being broken, people having a personal journey in temperament undertaken.... Soulless. Also, does everything have to be blue, red and white? I've done some copywriting courses as well and they aren't even telling a story with the call to action. They also don't create the sense of value that a great copywriter is able to achieve when creating a dream sequence to self fulfil. It also avoids the balance between physical exercise, self defence and mental preparation along with the accessibility issue with Judo for many along with misguiding expectations. But like the Wave formula the standardisation of professional coaching as a thriving industry has been long overdue. Btw I don't think any of the children in the modelling photos are real. I think it's all Artificial Intelligence generated Art like Dalle. Why? None of it makes sense and if you go onto AI generated art asking for Judo you get lots of Karate nonsense. I think the slogans are all AI generated too. Which means they are saving money and not using real people to do the marketing. I'm also guessing they didn't survey the coaches nationally to influence this campaign. But the west Asian girl performing the Chinese Shaolin salute upside down with the fist hand (sun meets moon from the Tang dynasty and Marishiten) whilst wearing a Japanese Gi is classic of retarded AI generated art.

    Well, I'm 81 years old, petite and Just started Judo. I love throwing other Judokas, but am a bit concerned that falling down over and over might not be so healthy for me. I have both hips resurfaced and also osteoporosis. I'm wondering if BJJ would suit me better. I was the wrestling champ when i was a preteen in a city project and love doing that. Anyone have any input? thanks. CJKnapp

    Judo matts on concrete floors in church halls are just not a good way to learn or do Judo and a recipe for injury That is what most clubs are . Purpose built judo dojos with sprung floors are very rare and few between That is the problem. No one is addressing this issue. You wont get anyone on a matt if they think they going ot get injured. No one got time for getting hurt these days.Fall badly on a one inch thick portable matt with a hard floor underneath and you are done.

    Fantastic breakdown of the purpose of uchi-komi. Often times we have students who rush through uchi-komi to get their reps in but each rep is incorrect, sloppy, or inefficient. The focus should be to do each rep correctly. Once perfection is achieved we can add speed, movement, and combinations. The road to perfection is a life long journey.

    • @thejudocoach
      @thejudocoach 9 месяцев назад

      Yes definitely - I also notice higher grades not focussing on the correct element of the technique especially with 'simpler' techniques, where they should add more detail to the practice. Thanks for watching. 👍

    I think ne waza is important in Judo and clubs having ne waza only sessions would be cool. As you said at the start though - Judo is actually faster and more dynamic than BJJ (I actually came to Judo from BJJ so bucking the trend) and some of the reason for that is that standup is the main focus and that time on the ground is limited (in IJF comps). I wouldn't want to see Judo turn into BJJ.

    • @thejudocoach
      @thejudocoach 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks, I agree with you judo groundwork is a faster pace and on our classes we ensure the 'rules' encourage this faster pace. 👍

    This is a very interesting subject and one that crops up quite often Personally, I started Judo to enhance my standup in BJJ. I never intended to be full-time Judo and still prefer BJJ to Judo As far as I'm aware, from the conversations I have had, many Judokas choose BJJ over Judo due to the rules changing in Judo and not because they get thrown and they're getting old. I'm 45 and have been training in Judo for 5-7 years now. BJJ opens up far more areas to develop your game both on the feet and definitely/obviously on the ground. For me, Newaza is very basic and if Im honest, boring. Sorry... I don't come across very many dan grades that can level with me. Yes, they can give a good and often powerful roll and if they manage to get Osaekomi on me then this is incredibly difficult to get out of. But their sole purpose there is to restrain me for 20 seconds. Meanwhile, in BJJ you would be stood up for stalling and lose points because its inactive play Another point is that Newaza starts on 1 knee. This isn't realistic. Its also a pretty weak place for a Judoka against a BJJ guy as they will just get their guard smashed through and subbed with submissions and setups that would leave the vast majority of Judokas in a daze With all due respect, Judo is awesome but so is BJJ and they both have their place and if you train one or the other, you 100% should cross train the one you haven't done

    • @thejudocoach
      @thejudocoach 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment and sharing your experience. I have done both and for me judo 100% lost it's way on the ground. I think judo has realised this though and is making an effort to improve. Their will always be a difference in ruleset (otherwise it would be the same sport/martial art) and I agree there is definitely lessons to be learned from both BJJ and Judo.

    Viable Judo pathways need to be developed, publicized and business skills taught to the youth on how to make a living from judo. We need to get to the point where when a parent asks a child “Will judo be able to feed your family?” The child should be able to pull out the information about the viable pathways, with average income data and the support from the community that are available to help them in their pursuit of a life in judo. The National Judo bodies should as well be supportive of such persons and help clear their growth path.

      Hey, thank you for the comment! And you are right this tutorial would have worked better with me demonstrating the finish ... here is an example of Kosei Inoue demonstrating the technique ruclips.net/video/cx2Kb3hg3hU/видео.html in the clip he attacks the same leg as I mention. To be clear ... you can definitely attack both legs depending on 'style' of uchi-mata and the posture of your opponent. In this tutorial I was discussing the common problems I see when I see beginner to intermediate judoka learning/practicing the technique. I hope this helps. Best wishes 👍
